Whatman Releases New Syringe Filter Catalog
  Tuesday, January 16, 2007
Whatman, a global leader in separations technology, today announced the release of its new catalog of syringe filters and related products. The 26-page brochure features detailed information on all seven Whatman syringe filter families, which can be used for a variety of applications in the pharmaceutical, environmental, biotechnology, and food and beverage industries.

The brochure specifically describes the company’s GD/X, GD/XP, Puradisc, SPARTAN, ReZist, Anotop, and Roby syringe filters. The catalog also includes helpful suggestions for Whatman customers and information on other types of filtration devices.

The seven syringe filter families below are described in detail in the new Whatman catalog.

GD/X filters are constructed using a pigment-free polypropylene housing encapsulating a prefiltration stack of Whatman GMF 150 (graded density) and GF/F glass microfiber media. They are specifically designed for high particulate loaded samples and have been used extensively for food analysis, content uniformity, and routine sample preparation.

GD/XP filters contain a two-layer prefilter stack comprised of 20 μm and 5 μm polypropylene filters. The last stage of filtration, positioned below the prefilter stack, is available in several types of material. These filters are ideal for use with samples that require metal analysis—including environmental and industrial samples—and also serve as an alternative for users requiring a filter that exhibits extremely low protein binding characteristics.

Puradisc filters are produced from pigment-free polypropylene and implemented with standard inlet and outlet luer connections. These versatile filters offer quick, efficient filtration of samples up to 100 mL volume.

SPARTAN filters are certified for HPLC use. The filters contain a hydrophilic, low protein-binding membrane that is compatibile with all common HPLC solvents.

ReZist filters contain a hydrophobic PTFE membrane. They are specifically designed to be resistant to organic solvents. These filters are ideal for the clarification of aggressive organic solvents and can also be used as a venting filter for small vessels.

The Anotop line of filters contains the unique alumina-based Anopore membrane and is available in three pore sizes. Glass microfiber prefilter versions are available for difficult-to-filter samples. The filters can be used with most organic and aqueous solvents and are suitable for sample volumes up to 100 mL.

Roby 25 filters for robot systems are developed specifically for automated sample filtration systems. Whatman offers Roby filters with various membranes and can integrate glass fiber prefilters for difficult-to-filter samples. The filter housing is made from mechanically stable polypropylene and is compatible with SOTAX® , Caliper® and other tablet testers.
